Hi all,

This week we enjoyed our first art class with Pak Susiawan. He brought natural clay and we made pots with it. It was a great sequencing activity in which the children had to follow three steps: rolling a snake, flattening a pancake and pinching and shaping the sides.

In Green Studies, Pak Noan took us on an exploration around campus with magnifying glasses. We found very interesting leaves, bugs and flowers and some of them made it back into our classroom. Our nature table is changing all the time! Today Pak Noan showed us a beautiful small snake that we all got to touch. The children were very interested and excited to see this creature.

We have been discussing the different food groups in our classroom and we made some collages out of old magazines. We made granola with our friends in Pre-K Prep and visited the school kitchen. Ibu Kadek, the school’s chef, welcomed us with delicious watermelon and banana-balls. The kids enjoyed the walk over the new bridge and were amazed by the sizes of the pots used to cook rice!

This Friday is Crazy-Hair day for house points, so let’s see how crazy we can get! Next Wednesday we will be visiting the mud-pit with Pre-K Prep. If you are willing to help out during this day, please let one of the teachers know.

Love,

The Pre-K team

Dear Parents,

This week, Pre-K Prep has had so many adventures! We visited the school kitchen and were hosted by Green School’s amazing chef, Ibu Kadek. She gave us a tour of the kitchen, and we discovered how our food is cooked. Ibu Kadek also treated us to delicious watermelon slices and banana balls. We will make grilled bananas tomorrow with Pre-K.

In Green Studies, Pak Noan brought a surprise visitor into class today…… a bronze back tree snake! We had the chance to feel the smooth skin of the snake and talked about what snakes eat and how they move. We also went on a nature walk with him to explore ants.

In Music Class, we started practicing a new song which we will perform in an assembly in March. The students also played with instruments such as glockenspiels, rain sticks, bells, as well as bamboo instruments.

In Art Class with Pak Susiawan, students experimented with clay made from mud. They tried to roll it into a ball, then flatten it, and finally pinch the sides into a bowl.

Today, all students were in our class portrait which was shot in two different locations. We were impressed with their display of patience and attention. We had a very special mystery reader today, Pak Steve, our Principal. The children had a chance to say goodbye to him.

This Friday is crazy hair day for house points. We look forward to seeing some interesting hairstyles around the school and in class. Next Wednesday, Pre-K and Pre-K Prep will be playing in the mud pit after snack. Please contact us if you would like to join us.

Thank you!

With love,

*the Pre-K Prep Team*

Last week, Grade 2A has learned about NTT (Nusa Tenggara Timur) and will be continuing with NTB (Nusa Tenggara Barat) during this week. They learned many things about the geography, tourism places, traditional instruments, traditional dressing, houses, and songs. Students shared about Komodo dragon what that they knew from their own experiences, their family members, or even from their friends. They showed great interest in many aspects of the land. Students can bring any arts or crafts that are related with these lands to share in the class.

Hello Kindy parents,
Another great week in the Kindy classroom! We are learning the letter, “Jj”, and the class found lots of words starting with this letter. We found that there are 6 names in our class starting with J! Along with “Jj”, we are also learning the letters, “oa”, which make the sound, “o”. We worked together to sound out many words that have these letters in them. The words, “boat” and “goat” are great examples, and learning the sounds that “oa” make together, help the children learn how to read these words, as they may seam “tricky” when sounding them out.

Class picture
Today we had the class picture taken, and the children did a great job of smiling. The children even had a chance to give a silly face, which they were all great at!

Green Studies with Pak Noan
Pak Noan is doing a great job with our class, and they are leaning so much. In the last few weeks the children made a giant volcano, as a whole class, in the sand pit. They also planted turmeric in the garden, as they learned all the benefit it has on our bodies.

Bahasa
In the past few weeks, Ibu Yulia has been teaching the children about the island of Sumatra. She is exploring songs, art, and myths from this island. She is also teaching the names of body parts in Indonesian, and taught the children a song to help them remember.

P.E
We are so happy to have Ibu Angela during our P.E time on Mondays! She is teaching our Kindy children hula hooping, as well as some forms of dance. The children are having so much fun!

Reminders:
-crazy hair day this Friday for house points
-Please bring every day: drink bottle, hat, communication log, and sunscreen(if you would like).

Thanks to all of our wonderful parents!
Lots of love and Kindy hugs,
Jen, Mel, Yulia, Kadek, and Trishna
